Care and knowledge is very essential in breeding these types of live bearers. Since these live bearers give birth to young ones, the water level in the tank should not be more than 20 centimeters .This is to ensure that the young ones get enough oxygen and remain alive. The female delivers up to 7 times after mating and the number of babies is dependent on the amount of food provided. Platy and Molly have to be fed on leaf matter on such occasions. A healthy female produces up to 50 young ones in a single time.
Once the female mates with the male, the abdomen bulges and the female delivers on the same day. It has to be ensured that aquatic plants are grown in the tank. As the live bearers fishes eat their own fry, the young ones need the help of aquatic plants to hide themselves. Another method is to feed the big fish in such a way that they don’t feel hungry at any time. Also separate the females from the tank as soon as possible. The smaller ones does not need the care of the parents in such variety.
The feed of the young ones should be powdered and given. The babies of live bearers are usually bigger. The growth of live bearers fry can be grown fast by giving live food like earthworm.
