Deciding which colours go with each other can be a tricky business. Achieving harmony can be quite a feat unless you have a colour-savvy pro helping you out. Although that is always the preferred option, here are a few handy tips to choose colours before you get started.
- Choosing colours that are on adjoining places in the colour scheme is a very good option. This way, not only will you know how they look together, this option almost always results in a calm and soothing room.
- Monochrome is one of the safest options for inexperienced folks. Although safe, this option can result in some drab and dull rooms. To avoid this, you can try having different coloured accents. Perhaps an accent wall, an interesting feature like a fireplace made to stand out or furniture and deco of another colour. Make sure you don’t clutter the place with too many oddly coloured artefacts. Stick to accents or deco of a single colour (a colour that contrasts with the walls, of course).
- If you want to be a little bolder, you can always try contrasting colours. Just be careful not to use the colours in the same proportion as this will result in a chaotic room.
