There are four main directions – South, North, East and West. But according to vaastu shastra, there are eight cardinal directions. Of these 8 directions, the point where every two directions meet is called a corner or Moola sthanam.
The point where the south and east direction meet is called the southeast corner. The point where the north and the east meet is called the northeast corner. The point where the south and the west meet is the south west corner and the point where the north and the west meet is the northwest corner. This is how the four cardinal directions are divided in vaastu shastra. Since these are all meeting points of two major directions, they will all have a high level of energy concentration. And so, seek the advise of a vaastu aacharya or expert, to pinpoint these ‘corners’ before beginning any construction. Any mistake in finding these points will result in vaastu doshas.
