Guppy is one of the most popular ornamental fishes. Bringing them up is very easy. These are natives of Venezuela and Brazil .The female fish is about 6 centimeters long while the lengths of males are only 3 centimeters. The female species are found in two colors; in light yellow or grayish silver. The males are found in a variety of colors and hence attract more customers. The males also possess a distinct fin as compared to females. These fish give birth to approximately 20 to 100 babies at a time .These fishes have good market value too.
Platy, another ivebearer, comes from Mexico .Even though this type is not long they have a wider body. They come in an attractive array of colors like orange , black , yellow, red, etc. The female variety has sword like fins while the male ones have no such fins. They give birth to 20 to 75 young ones at a time. The female Platy is up to five centimeters long while the male ones are only three centimeters.
Another variety in this category is Molly. They grow up to 10 centimeters in length. These American natives are also a colorful lot. They come in colors like orange , black ,white, golden, silver, chocolate etc. These fish live best in saline water. The males are recognized with their peculiar fins. They can feed on any thing.
