Since you now know how to paste wallpapers/hanging wallpapers, you are now ready to go shopping for the essentials. Here’s a basic checklist to help you with the shopping.
Plastic Bucket: Any not-so-small plastic bucket would do. If you have one lying around (perhaps from a previous paint-job), then you can very well use that and save money. Also make sure you have something with which to stir the paste.
Scissors & Utility Knife: You need both to trim edges and cut the wallpaper. Get a sharp pair of scissors and knife, if you don’t want to leave an uneven or messy tear.
Ruler: A ruler is an absolute necessity when it comes to hanging wallpapers, be it for cutting along perfect straight lines or be it for accurate measurements. The ruler has to be really long, preferably the width of the wallpaper.
Pencils & Chalk line: Pencils and chalk lines are both for the purpose of marking. While a pencil is used for marking the wallpaper, the chalk line is usually for markings on the wall.
Pasting brush & Smoothing brush: A pasting brush is, as the name suggests, used for pasting. A 4 inch wide brush is ideal for the task. A smoothing brush is used to smooth out the hung wallpaper, to get rid of trapped bubbles and to press the wall-covering into place.
Set Square: These are used to make sure your cuts are exactly 90 degrees in case you are cutting angles.
Pasting Table: Rubbing adhesive over the wallpaper can vey certainly be messy. A portable pasting table is sure to reduce the ‘messiness’.
Clean rags & Sponge: A sponge like we learned earlier, is essential when we need to clean the pasted wallpaper. Clean rags (lint-free) are required to cleaning the pasting table. Any other rag will leave a lot of fibres on the table, making the next pasting very unclean.
Steel tape: This is for measuring the wall height and width.
Sandpaper/ Sanding Pad: This is to sand a wall smooth before hanging the wallpaper.
Seam Roller: This is to smooth down seams once you’ve hung the wallpaper.
This is about all you need to get started. Equipped with this know-how go spread your walls with patterns!
