The position of the kitchen in a house is of paramount importance. It is a place with a constant presence of the Agni deva. The second part from the north is called Parjanya padam. In this Parjanya padam, the kitchen should be on the ishan kandam (northeast part). After deciding the Parjanya padam, the fireplace should be build according to the Dhoomayoni (Southeast direction), as stated in the vaastu shastra. For the fireplace, Dwajayoni (East direction) and Jagayoni (North direction) are the best positions. In rooms, the south side on the Pushaa padam and the second Pusha padam on the east side from the south, are ideal for constructing kitchens. A kitchen inside a house should be sacred both by its position and by its purity.
