Agni (fire) is considered one among the five elements (pancha bhoothas). The primary source of energy of all living things is sun which is also Agni (fire). The kitchen should be built in the Agni corner (Agni moola). According to vastu shastra, the south eastern direction is called as Agni moola. A kitchen built in other directions may invite negative energy and may create problems among family members. Cooking should be done facing the eastern direction. Cooking by facing other direction is not auspicious at all. According to vastu shastra, the stove should be arranged at a distance of one feet from the south eastern corner. The shelves for keeping the utensils can be kept in the southern or western direction. Shelf should not be built in the northern or eastern side. Mixer girnders and refrigerators should be kept in the south or west side of the kitchen. The sink used for cleaning vessels can be placed on the south east part. The waste water should be drained out in the north eastern direction.
