Prayer room (Pooja room) is the purest place in the house, which helps us to deal with problems and also gives solace to our mind. The location of the prayer room should be precise. According to vastu shastra, the prayer room (Pooja room) should be placed in the north eastern part of the house. The walls adjoining the pooja room should not be that of a bathroom or toilet. Also it must be seen that there should be no bathroom above the Pooja room.
According to vastu shastra, the front of the Pooja room should be in east or north direction. The lamp should be placed in the south eastern side of the prayer room (Pooja room). The north east side is considered most ideal while planning a Pooja room. Usually it is a practice to keep the idols facing the entrance of the prayer room. But this may bring Vaastu doshas. The idols should be kept in the western or eastern side. The idols should not be facing southwards at the time of prayer. Pooja room should be made separately but it should not be covered with curtain and used as another room. Triangle shaped things should not be kept in a Pooja room. Shelves should be built in the western or southern side. Any idols which we get as a lost property should not be kept in the Pooja room. Prayer room (Pooja room) where the ceiling is raised above in the centre and slanting downwards in the four directions, is auspicious according to vastu shastra. This is followed in temples. While Homas are performed in houses, The place where the fire is burnt (Homakundda) should be placed in the south eastern direction. The face of the person who does the pooja should face in the eastern direction. All these points are to be noted while planning prayer room (Pooja room).
