Once a plot has been bought for building a flat, the first thing to be done is the preparation of the plan. During this stage, make sure you seek the help of both an architect and a vastu expert (to follow vastu guidelines). According to vastu shastra, no matter which side you choose, the main entrance should be in the middle. If you decide to fix the entrance of the flat on the west side, a door or large window should be placed on the east side. If the entrance is on the north side, the door or window should be on the south side. It is preferable to have windows and doors opening to the east or north directions. Doors on the inauspicious side will bring misfortune to the inhabitants.
The number of windows and doors of the flat should always be a multiple of two. Staircases and corridors should be constructed only on the north and east parts of each floor. Also make sure corridors and stairs are placed lower than or on the same level of the flats. Bathrooms and bedrooms should never be located on the northeast sides of the flat. The kitchen should always be on constructed facing the northwest or southeast directions. The toilets should be fixed facing either the south or north. Drainage should carry sewage in the east or north directions. Come up with an elegant and attractive name for the apartment. ‘Lo’, ‘Ooh’, ‘Var’, ‘No’, ‘Shh’ and ‘Su’ are sounds to be avoided in the name. The car parking area should be located on the east or north sides of the plot. The main entrance to the flat should be at the front, right in the middle. These are the Vastu guidelines to be followed when constructing an apartment or flat.
